WHY ARE SO MANY CHRISTIANS SAYING IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW WHEN JESUS IS COMING?

It is commonly said by Christians that no one knows the day nor the hour of Jesus’ coming. They are supposedly quoting Matthew 24 when they say this. However, this is not what Matthew 24 states. It states “Heaven and earth shall pass away (be destroyed) … but of THAT day and THAT hour knows no man.

Jesus was not referring to His coming in this Scripture. He was referring to the time of heaven and earth’s destruction by His Father. This occurs in revelation 20:11 when the Father shows His face and heaven and earth flee away and no place is found for them. This however has nothing to do with being able to know when Jesus will return.

Jesus left a definite sign and a definite time of His return. He told His followers to look for the “sign of the Son of Man” to occur just before the trumpet was blown for the angels to gather the elect (saved). Jesus does not directly tell us what the sign is in Matthew 24 but it can be figured out through careful study of the Scriptures.
